What is EDM and Total Station//CivilEngineering//Surveying
EDM Edm is a surveying instrument that utilizes an infrared or laser beam to measure the distance from the source point to a defined target point. EDMs are widely available; more sophisticated versions are usually incorporated in a total station. The introductio of electromagnetic distance measurement(EDM) has made the task of distance measuring a simple operation. These are controlled instruments that can measure long distance within a few seconds at the press of bottom. Total Station A total station is an electronic theodolite integrated with and EDM to read slope distance from the instrument to a particular point. They are mainly used by land surveyors and Civil Engineers either to record features as in topographic surveying or to set out features (such as roads, houses or boundries). They are also used by archaelogists to record excavations and by police, crime scene investigators, private accident reconstructions and insurance companies to take measurement of scenes. Using the total station, we can perform. • Coordinate Measurement • Angle Measurement • Distance Measurement • Data processing
